Tennis for everyone
This is how the courts looked in the Summer 2010.
Our courts will be closed for the majority of September 2011 while Fosse Contracts complete the resurfacing work and colouring of the playing surface.
To keep all you eager players in the know here is the latest update on our exciting court development.
On the evening of the 8th October, Steve and Annette said their farewell to our ageing courts, which had played host to plenty of tennis in recent months. They duly removed the nets and posts ready for the work to begin.
For nearly a week, experienced court constructors went about laying the foundations for our own Rod Laver arena. After treating the original surface to eradicate moss and weeds, a new smooth layer of tarmac was rolled.
With the initial work now done, the courts are out of action for another 3-5 weeks to ‘weather’.
Once sufficiently ‘weathered’, white lines will be applied and play can once again commence.
The green surface is unlikely to be laid until next spring when the weather should be nicer.
So don’t despair, it won’t be long until the thud of a forehand smash can be heard once again.
The courts were re-opened on 27th October having had temporary lines painted on the plain tarmac surface. Due to the tarmac not weathering correctly, the courts will not be coloured until Autumn 2011.
