Tennis for everyone
Desford Lawn Tennis Club held their first ever charity event last Sunday. In aid of the Marie Curie Cancer charity, members of the tennis club and visitors took part in a number of challenges and novelty games to raise funds and generally have a good time. Serious tennis challenges such as using a radar gun to record the fastest serve, and trying to win points against head coach Alec Matty, were mixed with more unusual events including the clubs own version of cricket played on one of the courts. There were separate events for junior members with target practice and volleying exercises amongst their activities. The weather improved for the Sunday and the event was held in warm sunshine with Sue and Martin Hands preparing a Barbeque for all attendees. Amongst the winners were Matthew Hands for the fastest serve, James Baker for winning most points against the coach, Jenny Field with an unbeaten 25 in the cricket challenge and her son Matt upholding family honour by winning the target practice.
