Tennis for everyone
Sport in Desford played host to over 60 people with learning disabilities from local Special Schools and Units as part of an Inclusive Sports Day. There was the opportunity to try a wide range of sports including tennis, football, the gym, bowls, dance, martial arts and find out about healthy eating. Desford Lawn Tennis Club ran some come and try sessions and the event was so successful that the club is forming an inclusive section to the club. Zara Jurenko, who recently won two gold medals at the European Special Olympics in Warsaw, helped with the tennis activities. Zara said “I am so happy that other people like me can now have a chance to play tennis. I hope they can play in the Special Olympics too”, as she showed her winners medals to the Mayor.
