Desford Lawn Tennis Club held their second annual charity event on Sunday 24th July. In aid of the Help for Heroes charity, members of the tennis club and visitors took part in a number of challenges and novelty games to raise funds and generally have a good time. Serious tennis challenges such as using a radar gun to record the fastest serve, and trying to win points against head coach Alec Matty, were mixed with more unusual events including Cardio tennis and the clubs own version of cricket. There were separate events for junior members including rounders and volleying exercises, however the more ambitious also had a try at fastest serve and beating Alec. The weather was overcast but thankfully dry with Sue and Martin Hand preparing a Barbeque for all attendees. Amongst the winners were Dipak Chauhan for the fastest serve and volley challenge, James Green for junior rally, and Jenny Field and Jeff Green who led their team to a resounding victory in the cricket challenge. Special thanks to all who donated prizes for the raffle including Heather, Jean and their entourage who produced a magnificent hamper that was also won by Dipak.
